First released in Japan on the 23rd of November 1996 with the P1 and P2, there are now over 44 different types of Japanese and English Tamagotchis with numerous cute characters, fun features, customisations and accessories. Tamagotchi means Tama(Egg) Uotchi(watch). Early tamas included the V2, 3s, 4, 4.5, 5, 5.5 and 6s, angelgotch(Tamagotchi Angel in the US), Umino (Ocean Tamagotchi in the US), Genjintchi, devilgotch and santaclautchi among with their iconic tamagotchi egg shape and fun characters and gameplay. The16th of November 2008 saw the exciting release of the first colour Tamagotchi, the Plus Colour in Japan which was followed by the Tamagotchi ID, IDL, 4U etc. July 16th 2016 saw the release of the Tamagotchi Mix, which allowed the fun possibility of mixing genes and was followed by the Meets (Japanese) and On (English). Tamagotchi's 25th Anniversary on the 23rd of November 2022, introduced Bandai's most techy tama, the Smart with a touch screen and many pierces with additional content, similar to the P's to add to the many tamas available.
